ABOUT THIS COFFEE
Three farms primarily participated in this lot: Finca Joya Grande, Finca Colombia, and Finca la Maravilla.
On Finca la Maravilla, all weed control is done by hand, without herbicides, to minimize environment impact. The farm also uses organic fertilizers. The farm’s water comes from a natural spring on the property. The farm has participated many times in the Cup of Excellence, where its coffee has ranked in the top 10.
PROCESSING
Producers take careful steps to pick only ripe and uniform cherries, in conjunction with good wet-mixing practices. Most of the coffee is sun dried, which contributes to an even, green-bluish bean color. Coffee is selectively handpicked, de-pulped, naturally fermented, washed and sun dried on concrete patios.
GEOGRAPHY
In the northwest of Guatemala, Huehuetenango is one of the country’s non-volcanic coffee-producing areas. Coffee is grown at altitudes of nearly 2,000 meters ASL, with a variety of microclimates also helping to develop the region’s trademark fruit notes and juicy body. The temperate, well-distributed rains and good soil conditions also contribute to ideal growing conditions.
- Region: Huehuetenango

Testimonials
Newberry is North Torrance's first "third wave" roaster, an area where the only places you can find coffee are at Starbucks, Coffee Bean, and McDonald's. They import beans from around the world, utilize high quality ingredients, roast locally, and establish partnerships with small farms.

Yelp
Excellent locally roasted coffee. Their choice of single origin plus roast length is always spot on. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

I like this place because it's a local roastery and I appreciate what they do amid heavy competition from big coffee companies nearby. I came in to buy a bag of beans to try. They are knowledgeable about coffee, and when I mentioned I wanted the beans to be grinded for my moka pot, they knew exactly what I was talking about and how coarse the grind needed to be. I like how they mention the origin and type of process that is used to roast the beans, which for me is the mark of a true coffee expert.
